Rainbow, Silhouette & Reflections at Marina Bay
Hei guys! I’m back with another video. The COVID19 lockdown is finally lifted for us photographers and we can go out and shoot again. In this video I start off with a sunrise shoot that was a total failure, but stay tuned until the end of this video, because at the end, I walk away with what I consider to be one of the best images that I’ve taken in recent times.
Before that, I chance upon a complete rainbow, as well as a silhouette shot in the rain.
So I start off here at Tanjong Rhu. I’ve shot here successfully in the past before, but you need really still water so there’s reflections to make the composition work. On this day, I knew it was a wasted sunrise the moment I got there.
The water was too choppy, and there was no way to get a satisfactory reflection in the waters.
I decided to try my luck during sunset, at Gardens by the Bay East and came across this complete rainbow.
I slap on a circular polariser and turn it to emphasise the colours of the rainbow.
Alas, it was raining and there wasn’t much I could do for landscape photography. But as I took shelter under a tree I noticed this interesting composition. I could frame MBS within the leaves and branches and as luck had it, there was a lone fisherman who very conveniently placed himself at the intersection of the rule of thirds on the bottom right.
Knowing that it has been raining for the past few days, I decided to try my luck at a puddle reflection sunset shot near the Esplanade. This was close to one of the places I mentioned in my last video where I listed out 9 fantastic locations and their possible compositions to shoot near the Esplanade.
I found a huge puddle on the pavement that served as a beautiful mirror and waited for sunset. The skies were pretty boring for the most part, but at precisely 7:12 when the sun was at the horizon, the skies erupted in a radiant pink. It’s worth noting that the direction of the colourful skies were actually opposite from where the Sun was setting.
My perseverance over the past few days in the rain paid off.
The light show lasted all of 5 minutes before fading away. I got 2 shots that made me an extremely happy cityscape photographer and it was all worth the effort.
I’m so glad to be able to share these images with you guys, and it goes to show that even though there may be days in the rain waiting for the skies to show you its beauty, hang in there, you’ll never know when the skies will open up and give you opportunity that you’ve been waiting for . As usual guys thank you so much for watching. Remember that your comments and thumbs ups mean a lot to me and remember to subscribe so you wouldn’t miss any of my videos. Shalom and goodbye!
