Learning Corporate Event Photography

About a month ago, Energy Market Authority in Singapore contacted me and asked if I could teach a workshop. Their objectives were simple:

  • Their staff wanted to learn how to photograph corporate events in Singapore

  • They wanted to ask for better photos from their external agencies and photographers

I said yes of course! After all, I have already over 10 years of experience on that subject and I’m always happy to help others improve their photography.

Why Learn Corporate Event Photography?

In today’s business world, high-quality event photography is crucial for branding, marketing, and internal documentation. Whether capturing keynote speakers, networking moments, or team group shots, great images help businesses showcase their events professionally and also cast their branding in a positive light.

Skills Taught in the Workshop

Here are some of the topics that the attendees learned the following essential event photography skills:

Framing & Composition for Events

  • How to position yourself effectively for engaging speaker and panel shots

  • Importance of including branding and sponsorship in the images

  • 8 Key moments that must be photographed at every event

Capturing Candid Moments

  • Techniques for shooting natural interactions during networking sessions

  • Anticipating key moments and expressions to capture the best shots

  • A segment on identifying positive body language and avoiding negative body language in photography

Group Photography Tips

  • How to arrange people for professional-looking team and group shots

  • Managing large and small groups effectively without awkward gaps

  • Ensuring everyone is visible and well-lit in the final image

Editing for Professional Results

  • Quick adjustments using built-in mobile editing tools

  • Enhancing contrast, sharpness, and color for a polished look

  • Cropping and straightening techniques to refine compositions

There’s much more, but I wouldn’t list every here in interest of space. Suffice to say, I don’t hold back my knowledge of corporate event photography.

Participants had a chance to try out their newly-learnt skills and get critique on site on how to improve their photos

Hands-On Learning & Real Event Photography Practice

Rather than just theory lessons, participants had the chance to practice their skills in a simulated event setting. Attendees took photos of staged networking moments and speaker presentations to refine their techniques in real time. After the practical session we had a chance to review the photos taken and explore how they can improve their skills.

Not only does this provide the opportunity to try out photography techniques, it also makes the lesson more engaging and kept the attendees on their toes to absorb everything I’ve been teaching during the lesson.

Quick Reference Guide for Corporate Event Photography

I didn’t want the participants to leave empty-handed at the end of session, so each student was given a Quick Reference Guide so that they can quickly refer to a set of useful notes on how to improve their photos. The guide also included a list of must-haves during every corporate event photo shoot.

“Very insightful course and great takeaways about basic photography that will help in event photography”

“Thanks for the very helpful workshop!”

That’s just some of the feedbacks I received at the end of the session. Besides this, most of the participants left a 5 out of 5 score on the feedback questionnaire I provided them.
